Tom Smith

Technical Director

Tom brings over 15 years of experience coaching youth soccer in a variety of settings. He holds an FA Level 2 coaching badge, a degree in Coaching Studies, and a diploma in Sports Coaching, Development & Fitness, along with several other sport-specific certifications.

Originally from Manchester, UK, Tom has called the Columbia Valley home since 2020. In 2023, he launched Valley Sports Hub, a youth sports coaching business focused on inclusive, multi-sport development across the region.

As Technical Director for CVYSA, Tom leads the development of training programs for both the House and REP programs. His approach emphasizes foundational skill-building, confidence, and a lifelong love for the game. He works closely with players, coaches, and families to foster a positive, supportive, and engaging soccer environment.

Tom’s coaching philosophy, "Include. Inspire. Develop. Compete." reflects his commitment to ensuring every child belongs, every session motivates, every player grows, and every game challenges.

His long-term goals at CVYSA include expanding HOUSE & REP team participation, enhancing coach development to improve player impact, and helping CVYSA become recognized as one of the top youth soccer development programs in the Kootenay Rockies. He is also committed to strengthening the club’s existing development pathway, supporting players from their first experience in House Soccer all the way through to U19 competition, and ensuring there are clear opportunities for those who wish to stay involved by mentoring or coaching younger age groups within the club.
